A strategic network of
STRENGTH, SUPPORT AND
TRUSTED EXPERTISE
In 1986, a group of southwest Michigan hospitals banded together to form a network with the initial aim of providing unbiased peer reviews for smaller hospitals and healthcare facilities. Hospital Network, Inc. was born. Our scope quickly broadened to include marketing, planning, electronic billing, and capital equipment purchases, as many of the healthcare facilities did not have the budgets, staff, or time to manage such functions independently. Our partnership enabled them to save money and operate more efficiently.
We soon realized we were uniquely qualified to offer many other expanded services to more hospitals and medical facilities. We had a special interest and clarity around our partners’ needs because those were our needs too. Our strengths quickly came into focus, and we saw a vision of a future with boundless growth and opportunity for everyone. In 2008, we reorganized and renamed our organization Hospital Network Ventures (HNV). We were very thoughtful about the meaning of our name. We chose “Ventures” because our span of interests has been broad and deep. We’ve let the problems of our healthcare industry guide us in the enterprises we choose to explore and build.

POWER IN PARTNERSHIP
From the beginning, solving problems, saving money, and delivering the best health care possible were the goals for HNV—and that still holds true today:
PROBLEM SOLVING
We listen to the complex challenges of doctors and hospitals, and we produce solutions that not only help the businesses, but also their communities and the patients they served.
COST-CUTTING
The healthcare community embraced our diagnostic imaging and waste management services. They’ve been financial successes and resounding wins for everyone involved. And these services are only the beginning.
DELIVERING UNPARALLELED HEALTHCARE
Everyone deserves access to quality healthcare. HNV helps providers in rural areas who don’t have the advantages of larger healthcare facilities in more populated areas.
Partners gain access to superior, trusted services and expertise across all facets of the industry. Financial strength and strategic advantage soon follow.

Diagnostic Imaging Reveals a Path to Growth
In the 1980s, neuroimaging was evolving, and development of cutting-edge computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques were breaking onto the medical scene. These new innovations came with a big price tag, which made them services that smaller regional hospitals and healthcare centers just couldn’t afford to provide. Patients in rural areas often had to travel a great distance to get a CT or MRI scan.
We recognized that partners needed easier access to diagnostic imaging services—without the enormous capital investment. So in 1986, we launched our first mobile medical CT & MRI imaging unit to local hospitals, creating a service that travels to partners.
Today, Alliance-HNI is responsible for 41 fixed and mobile units offering radiology service to over 70 hospitals and physician practices throughout Michigan. Their outstanding quality standards have earned Alliance-HNI a distinguished endorsement from the Michigan Health & Hospital Association. Further, this thriving and highly profitable entity under the HNV umbrella has served as the blueprint for other ventures that have followed. It’s a prime example of the many ways HNV has helped partners stabilize and grow while improving care.

Diversification with Medical Waste Management
With the success of the diagnostic imaging services, we decided to diversify offerings and broaden our scope. We studied the industry, looking for other needs and opportunities and recognized waste management as an area ripe for improvement.
Hospitals had been able to incinerate their own waste at one time, but then medical waste became federally regulated. Hospitals had to contract with national companies for disposal and the lack of competition had healthcare businesses overpaying for waste removal.
By creating our own medical waste service, HNHS Waste Management, we were able to cut costs for partners by over 65%. We had the added benefit of being owned by Michigan hospitals, so we had firsthand experience of what was truly needed. HNHS Waste seamlessly manages the logistics, transport, documentation, processing and disposal of regulated medical waste in their own state-of-the-art treatment facility. Their customized waste management solutions prioritize safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship.
